An Evening of Stories and Song with Melanie

  • Notes at Copious 520 South High Street Columbus, OH, 43215 United States (map)

“Melanie burst onto the scene, as a young singer/songwriter, with an electrifying performance at the Woodstock Music Festival. In the three years following that memorable performance, she rocketed to the very top of the music world. She had thirteen top 40 hits, including 3 number 1s.  Rolling Stone Magazine dubbed her “The female Bob Dylan”. She was the first female artist in history to have 3 songs in the Billboard Top 40 simultaneously. She sold over 80 million records. With guitar in hand and a talent that combined amazing vocal equipment, disarming humor, and a vibrant engagement with life, she produced classic hit after hit (such as “Look What They Done To My Song Ma”, “Lay Down/Candles in the Rain (“the Woodstock Anthem”),  “Brand New Key” (the roller skate song), “Beautiful People”, and many more. She was named female artist of the year by Billboard, Cashbox, Melody Maker, Record World, and Bravo. Ed Sullivan said that he hadn’t seen such a “dedicated and responsive audience since Elvis Presley”. She was the first solo rock artist to appear from the Royal Albert Hall to Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, the Sydney Opera House, and the General Assembly of the United Nations (where, on several occaisions, she was greeted with standing ovations from the delegates).

Then, at the height of her popularity, she walked away from the music world to dedicate her life to her children and to her family. She never stopped writing and recording though. Over the years, she has now released over 40 albums of heartfelt, original music. Recently, she has been touring, on a very limited basis, and the reviews have been superlative. Check out her linked website below for some press coverage of her recent performances, some of her music,  some really cool videos (of her Woodstock performance, her appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show, the Tonight Show, the Johnny Cash Show, with John Lennon at the Concert for Bangladesh, and lots of others).

As the latest in the Heartland Bank Music Series, Notes is proud to present Melanie, in our intimate setting, on Thursday, December 7. She will be accompanied by her son, Beau Jarred, a very accomplished, multi instrumentalist in his own right. Melanie has recently written: “Here is the point. I am now the oldest little girl in rock n roll with my juices intact. But its still me”.

Secure your tickets early because this will be a night not to be missed.”
