She's Coming Home!
Returning to Notes jazz club after last year's successful concert, critically acclaimed jazz artist and bandleader Erin McDougald will be singing her latest arrangements of obscure and original wintry songs with rhythmic treatments of lesser-aired holiday anthems Christmas weekend (Saturday December 23 at 8pm) for a night of improvised jazz with Columbus' Jon Eshelman trio. The Chicago Tribune has lauded McDougald's "ebullient... altogether enchanting" style, Chicago Music Guide praises her "evocative artistry" while being noted "one of the best voices in jazz today" by a Downbeat critic. Her "elegant stature, rapturous vocal flexibility and self-deprecating wit" left last year's Columbus audience enthralled..."McDougald's voice is sweet and spicy in equal measure, a rare instrument to be savored... a gorgeous sound... thrilling phrasing... positively mercurial!" (~Jazz Improv magazine)
This show is a listening room only (silent phones, no chatter during the performance); children 12 or older may be accompanied by a legal guardian for the first set; otherwise, the show is 21 and older only.
Whether recording with jazz giants Dave Lieebman and Tom Harrell (with world renowned Dae Bennet as the engineer), performing with modern iconic trumpeter Nicholas Payton or collaborating with the legendary Ira Sullivan, Jazz Vocalist Erin McDougald is considered "one of the best voices in jazz today" (-Downbeat, H. Mandel). She has thrilled audiences at The Chicago Jazz Festival, sold-out concert venues in Manhattan's Broadway district and Greenwich Village, Los Angels, San Francisco, and everywhere between Atlanta and Seattle... And for over fifteen years, Erin McDougald has reigned as a celebrated artist in Chicago's competitive jazz scene with a beautifully distinct sound and artful approach to modern, swinging jazz . The Chicago Tribune calls her "stunning... enchanting... ebullient... [and] soulful" while Chicago Music Guide praises her "evocative artistry". After a successful performance with her Chicago-based GRAMMY-nominated band-members at Notes Columbus in 2016, Erin, originally from Delaware, Ohio, will return to her home-state and to Notes on December 23, 2017 at 8pm for a special wintry-holiday concert, this time, with Columbus local pianist/B-3 organist Jon Eshelman and his jazz trio that include familiar and extremely rare and original compositions, all in Erin's daring, interpretive style. No children under the age of 12 admitted; this is a listening room for a concert-style performance; talking is not permitted during the performance. There will be two 70 minute sets starting at 8pm and approximately 9:45pm. 6:30-7pm Dinner reservations in the above restaurant, Copious Columbus, are highly recommended and it is advised tickets are expected to go fast for this show so advance purchase is recommended.
